RESCUED! A true story

Have you ever been lost? I mean, really lost? So lost, in
fact, that you needed someone to help you get back on the
right track? If you're blind, and have done any amount of
independent travel, the answer is, most likely, Yes. It's
happened to all of us at one time or another. (Actually,
it happens to sighted people, too, especially, to drivers
who won't ask directions, and wind up in the next state,
before they're willing to admit that they're lost.)

My first Leader Dog, Norton, and I got very lost one
time.  (Actually, Norton and I got very lost many times;
I'll just tell you about one occasion.) On this particular
Sunday, we went to a record store, made a purchase and
started home. Unfortunately, we made a bad crossing or
something, and ended up in Schenley Park, around which we
wandered for about 3 hours. (It was a little before 5
p.m., when we left the store, and I was beginning to wonder
if we'd make it home for the 11 o'clock news! Finally, in
desperation, I climbed to the street level, and stuck out
my thumb! After a bit, a nice man stopped, invited us into
his car, and drove us home. (As it turned out, I was only
about a block from where I should have been.) When I
finally got home, it was after 8 p.m. I was certainly glad
that that nice man was there to rescue us! Norton was also
pretty thrilled about it, since he was cold and hungry!

Now, you're probably saying: "Good story, Bob, but, so
what? What does that have to do with anything spiritual?
" Well, here's what: just as I was physically lost, and
needed a rescuer, we were all spiritually lost, and needed
a rescuer. In fact, the Bible says that we were not only
lost, but we were dead!!! The Bible tells us that we were
at enmity with God; that is, we were His enemies--not
because He didn't love us, but because of our sin! We were
in bad shape. But God, in His great love, grace, and
mercy, sent His son, Jesus, to rescue us from the clutches
of the devil. He did that by His death, burial and
resurrection. By His death, he atoned for our sins; while
in the toomb, He descended into hell, showing Satan who was
really boss; with His resurrection, He overcame death, so
that we might have eternal life.  Therefore, we're free;
Satan no longer owns us!

Norton and I were sure thankful for the nice man, who
rescued us from Schenley park; How much more thankful, for
Jesus Christ, who rescued us from sin, death and the devil!

Amen.
