The Jar of Stones.

A man was giving a lecture to a group of business people on time management. He brought out a large gallon wide mouth jar and set it on top of the desk and began filling it with large rocks. When no more rocks could be fitted into the jar he asked, Is this jar full? Everybody in the class answered Yes! He then took out some small gravel and began pouring it into the jar, shaking it to allow the smaller rocks to filter down into the jar. Again he asked, Is the jar full now? Wise to what he was up to the class answered, No! He then took some sand and began pouring that into the jar. Again he asked, Now is it full? No! Was the emphatic reply. Next he took water and pourd it into the jar up to the rim. How about now, is this jar full? Yes came the reply from the class. What do you get out of this illustration asked the lecturer. One man spoke up and said, no matter how full your schedule is you can always fit something else into it. No, said the lecturer, the point I want to make here is that if you don't put the big rocks in first you won't have room for them later. The big rocks represent the important things in your life, God, family and friends. If you don't fit them into your life first, there won't be room for them later.
